Street Food Festival Preview

Last Friday I had the privilege of attending an event to preview some of the foods and delicacies that will be available at this years Street Food Festival in the Mission on Saturday August 2o from 11am-7pm in the Mission. 

The Street Food Festival is sponsored and organized by La Cocina. La Cocina is an organization that serves as an incubator for low-income food entrepreneurs. The organization focuses on immigrant women and women from communities of color and provides commercial kitchen space, technical assistance from industry experts and opportunities for food entrepreneurs to develop and grow their businesses.

If you love food trucks and street food then I highly recommend you check out the SF Street Food Festival on August 22.  The food trucks and booths will be on Folsom from 22th to 26th, 23rd and 25th from Treat St. to Shotwell St., as well as the Cesar Chavez Elementary School parking lot and Parque de los Ninos Unidos.

For appetizers I recommend that you taste the strawberry ricotta bruschetta with a balsamic glaze from Mission Tortilla, the Brazilian cheese bread also know as pan de queso from Kika’s Treat that literally melts in your mouth & the Colombian aborrajado by Maite catering which is a fried plantain filled with guava paste and provolone cheese. For Entrees be sure to try the Takoyaki by Nombe which is rich and delicious, the Shrimp Po Boy by Zella’s Soulful Kitchen with a tasty remolade slaw and Pumpkin Curry from Osha Thai. For dessert do not miss the alfajores which are yummy cookies filled with dulce de leche from Sabores del Sur and the lemon cookie ice cream from Three Twins.  And be sure to try a jello shot (or four) from Sweets Collection which not only tastes good but is pretty to look at.   Each shot has a handcrafted design inside and if you have enough of them they will likely give you a nice buzz.

I highly recommend that you check out the street festival, not only will you get a chance to taste some great food but you will be helping a great organization that encourages and assists low income women to make it in the food industry.
