California Wine Facts in honor of California Wine Month

 September is California Wine Month and because I am a California native, I wanted to pay tribute to California wine month with some interesting California Wine facts:

California produces more wine that any other state in the US.  

A whopping 90% of all American produced wines are made in California.  California is also first in wine consumption in the United States consuming 18 percent of all of the bottles consumed in the entire United States.

California is the fourth largest producer by volume of wine in the world behind only Italy, France and Spain. 

Last year 2.7 billion 750 mil bottles were produced in California with a retail value of $17.8 billioon dollars

The first successful vineyard planted in California was at Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1779.

There are more than 100 American Viticulture Areas  or  AVAs in California.  

California boosts more than 60,000 registered California wine labels, 2,275 bonded wineries and 4,600 grape growers

Wine is grown in 48 of California’s 58 counties and vineyards cover 477 ,000 grape bearing acres.
